Hand crafted by Chinese artisans with fine silk materials, this one-of-a-kind embroidery piece depicts a section of a monumental scroll created by Italian artist Giuseppe Castiglione for the Qing dynasty court in China (1644-1910). To demonstrate the fragility and transparency of butterfly wings, the artisan embroidered in a thickness of only 2 silk filaments (a strand of Chinese silk floss usually has 16 filaments), which makes it much more time consuming to create. The delicate colors and shading, as well as the black mat with inner gilt edge, adds to the refinement of the piece.

Please note that the black mat is included but not attached so you can frame it however you wish :)
